Give this site a try. It is the best place for making reservations at all National Forest campgrounds thruought the US. It's pretty easy to navigate and will save you a bunch of time.

Campground Directory and National Forest Campgrounds

Around the Colorado Springs area you'll want to focus the Pike National Forest campgrounds.

There are nice camping opportunities at Cheyenne Mountain State Park, which is just a few miles south of COS.

Default Good place to set up camp?

I was wondering if I could get any suggestions on where to pitch a tent for a weekend. A place where there aren't any people, close to some fishing and relatively easy access to get to (we have 2 young girls). We would like to do some relaxing river tubing as well. We're not from the area so any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Subie, moved your post to a thread on this topic which should answer your questions.

RE tubing, rivers are ice cold at this time with snow melt run-off and many rivers this year will have wild water due to large amounts of snow melt, making them unsafe in many areas. I'd hold tubing for deep summer.

Ha! Good luck. There are too many people in the area to find a place 'where there aren't any people', unless you're talking about primitive camping. Head up to Spruce Grove past Lake George, it meets most of your criteria. Some campsites can be reserved, the rest will go fast on a weekend (the best sites are the walk-ins).

We just camped last night at Thunder Ridge in Pike National Forest. I give it a big thumbs up. Nice camp areas for tents and small campers or pop-ups. But it was at 9000 feet and we got the short end of the stick weather wise.
