It's just the fair grounds we're talking about here.
Many of the buildings were built in the 1930's great depression during the back to work program. The kind of craftsmanship used back then is to expensive today especially for a fair. Honestly I don't think it could be replicated today even if someone were to try.

Having a foundation try to improve the financial situation of the Fair is a great start.

640,000 considering the Denver area is over 3 million is not good.

The official numbers are out for the fair attendance. The number of 498,720 does not include the sneak a peak Thursday night so if you did then the fair attendance would be over 500,000 people. Not bad.

Also, the Colorado State Fair is the 36th largest fair in the nation. Not the largest but respectable.

The pork chop on a stick is probably about 49% of my reason for going there, with a photograph with "Ace" the Capuchin monkey accounting for another 49%... the remaining 2% is a mixture of things. I had a funnel cake this year.. it had probably been about seven years since I'd gotten one... so vulgar, those things are... but so good.
As much as we all love the state fair, it's kinda unfortunate that the dates of it overlap with Taste of Colorado, which I think kinda gets underrated because of it.

The state fair has always ended on Labor Day, at least in my lifetime, and is much older then the taste of Colorado. Why I never attend the taste of Colorado as I am at the fair.

Fair food: I love the Indian fry bread, foot long hot dog, bratwurst, and the cheese on a stick the most. They did have a deep fried Pueblo pepper and I hear it was a hit. Be interesting to see how it does at the Chili fest.

Ah, but if you like the fry bread at the fair, and you're missing out on the fry bread dishes offered by Tocabe (who set up a booth at ToC), then you're missing out!
I just go on different weekends. Older or not, ToC I think kinda is a big deal, and I would like to see more done to promote it.

The thing is I go to the fair almost every day. This year I went 8 of the 11 days and labor day weekend I was at concerts Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The only days I missed was Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. I guess what I am saying is once the fair starts my life kind of goes on pause and I spend most of my free time there.

So I had heard that KRDO 13 reported that the Colorado State Fair was among the best in the nation and today it was confirmed by the Pueblo Chieftain as it was ranked 17. This is good news going into the next edition as it will start next month and as usual I will post pictures here.

This is from the Chieftain:

Fair rated one of nation’s best

I'm an advocate of the fair staying in Pueblo, but the headline is misleading. 17th is barely in the top half. When I saw the headline I was thinking top 10, but it was closer to 20.

I was surprised not to see Iowa not on the list, I know they are one of the most attended fairs in the country.
