I'm posting this here in Colorado to get advice for ISPs that may be more local for me.

We've only had dial-up internet all along. (That should get me some major sympathy ). It was free for me to dial in from home into the college ISP while I was a student, which was great for a student budget, and then we switched to a $10/mo du ISP (copper.net) after.

So now we are thinking of going high speed, or something faster than du. It seems like the basic cost most ISPs charge is around $30-40/mo. We have been maintaining a frugal lifestyle and are hoping to find a good deal on internet service.

Our computers aren't the latest and greatest: a 3yo Dell desktop and a 7yo Dell P4 desktop that won't die (I'm on it right now). So I'm not sure what they would need for switching to a high speed service.

Qwest has some promo plans, $15-20/mo intro plans, and lots of fine print with them. We have qwest basic phone service already so we are going to look into them.

We need to get educated about high speed so we know what questions to ask and how to get the best deal. Any advice is appreciated!

qwest is going to be the best deal if you can get it. I know many people in Colorado who cant and are stuck using verizons 3-4gb internet connect cards with 5gb cap limits and ridiculous overage charges. I use tmobiles 5gb plan which is 40 with no overages since i travel a lot and it works where i need it to.

What city? It's either Qwest, Bresnan or Skybeam.

Good morning Eofelis!

I've had Bresnan since May of 2007 and I'm overall pretty happy with them. I bought the tv/phone/high speed package from them. I'm guaranteed to be the dumbest one on the forum here regarding the tech end of things, but whenever I've locked myself into a problem I couldn't get out of Bresnan was always helpful. Their customer service has always been good with tv and phone issues as well. They are based out of Billings, Montana.

There is a local company in Junction that handles phone and high speed called Grand Valley communications. Their offices are on 8th and North on the north side of the street.

If you're not concerned with the tv package the phone/net package they offer would work for ya. I went with Bresnan because the tv package they offered beat DirecTV easily. Grand Valley's regular monthly phone rates are cheaper if you live in Junction as opposed to, say living in Palisade or Fruita. Not sure what their monthly rate is.

Good luck!
