I think that's regional. I'm sure these things are passed down from parents to kids.

I was listening to NPR this morning. The announcer (Steve Enskey?) always mispronounces our state name. He was interviewing the mayor of Lakewood about that city's thriving economy. The mayor, as I assumed he would, pronounced our state name correctly three times in the interview (yes, that's right, correctly as in Co-lo-ra-do).

The announcer, bless his attentive heart, picked up on that and pronounced it Co-lo-ra-do in his wrap up.

I heard Ryan Warner on NPR a few days ago, he of the "Co-lo-rah-do" a few months ago. He's actually pronouncing it correctly these days. There's hope!
