Go to indoor shooting ranges, play in a darts league, get caught up on guitar playing (learning ragtime now, leaving the blues behind...), learn Spanish.

There are many, many people who have lived in CO their entire lives and have never skied. So, that right there is a myth. Plus, as others have pointed out, CO winters can be very mild with little snow. Just because the seasons change, doesn't mean we lock ourselves up indoors. Most people here are still very active all year round. I've seen people jog around lakes with their dogs during snow storms. Luckily for Denver, we have pro sports teams all year round too. If you're into that, you can always catch a game of some kind around here. Skiing has never appealed to me. But in winter, I showshoe, ice fish, hike, read books, take photos, and since I'm a licensed ham radio operator, I can talk all over the world.

When I'm not skiing in the winter, I'm snowboarding.

I don't ski or 'board, so I do everything else one can do in the spring, summer, fall, including hot springs!

Winter in Southern CO is great for working outdoors. It's usually sunny and surprisingly warm outdoors. We generally work outdoors, limbing up trees, chipping the slash, and doing other general outdoor work. That time of year is more conducive to working outdoors than the summer when it's hotter and there are more annoying bugs. Summer should be savored for the more enjoyable (non-work) activities like hiking, fishing, etc. Not to say that work is not enjoyable....just different. I wish we had more time for snow-shoeing in winter. We just don't get enough snow. I haven't gone down-hill skiing in over 30 years and I don't miss it one bit.
