Hello, I'm wondering about the area around Sedalia. I know that it's located more toward the eastern-plains part of Colorado, but wonder exactly what the topography is like? Somewhat mountain-ish or all plains?

Also, what would be the difference between the Sedalia area and the Golden area as far as a place to live?

Thanks in advance,

Amy

Sedalia is not on the eastern plains. It's nestled in a valley between the base of the foothills to the west (google Devils Head) and south and some higher ground (Castle Pines, Daniels Park, etc) to the north and east. If you google "Sedalia CO" and click on the pictures tab, some pretty good pictures come up with an illustration of what I'm talking about.

Not much in Sedalia itself except for a tiny post office, one or two restaurants and a biker bar, however it's only a few minutes from Castle Rock which is a full blown satelite suburb of Denver, and maybe ~20 minutes from Highlands Ranch/Littleton via Santa Fe Dr.

Golden is a much more substantial sized town, also in its own valley which makes it feel distinct from the rest of the Denver metro area. Golden is home to the Colorado School of Mines and Coors.

Good description by vegaspilgrim. Traffic can get a little unbearable at times at this time of the year on state highway 67 going to Deckers (which goes right through town) as it's a popular area for ATVers, people fishing on the So. Platte, etc.

I like Sedalia. My wife and I looked for property there before we bought where we are at now. I have friends there with land in the foothills.

Thanks all for the input on Sedalia. One of the things that I'm most interested in is the climate. I thought that Sedalia (and Golden) would be somewhat dry, at least compared to the Midwest/East. The humidity in the summers here is awful -enervating and awful! However, I just looked at the weather for today in Sedalia and it's listed as 57% humidity or so. That seems higher than what I'd have thought. Any thoughts on this?

It is normally much dryer than that. Sedalia does get more snow than the lower elevations. We have a system coming in so the humidity is a little higher than normal.
