Have skied Ajax many days, too ... weekends and weekdays ...

and, like skiing Vail on busy days,

it's a case of knowing the mountain and when/where to ski to avoid the traffic. On holiday weekends or prime weeks in the high season, both can and will have high density traffic. I've certainly spent my time in lift lines on both areas, and still found places to ski where I avoided the crowds on those days.

As far as terrain ... both outfits are masters of slope management and trail design. You can find comparable terrain to fit any level of skiing ability at both locations. On those days when the powder is deep and fresh, I think the Back Bowls at Vail are unmatched in Ajax ... but that's only one aspect of skiing and there's a lot more to enjoying the activity than solely singling out just the one.

In any event, I've found skiing to have it's good points ... and lesser ... at virtually every ski area I've skied. Some have left me with an overall better experience, and among them ... Vail has consistently delivered the best experience for me. Does that mean I wouldn't ski Ajax? of course not, it's got it's good days and strengths, too.

If you like Ajax, so be it. Pays your money and takes your choice.
