yes and no. It's basically the difference between being at treeline and being below treeline, which can be important to someone living there.

Have you been to Crested Butte? The town is not at treeline. Treeline is above 11,000' more or less.
Believe it or not, there are trees in and around Crested Butte. images of crested butte - Google Search

Oh yeah... you're the same guy who said that there are no glaciers in CO

I'm looking for a mountain town that has some culture, nightlife, and is aesthetically pleasing. That's about it since I know each place as plenty of outdoor activities. Which would you choose and why? Is there another place better suited that I didn't list?

Thanks for your time and advice.
You really have received very thoughtful, accurate advice on each of these towns, I agree with nearly all of it. Since you asked which would I choose and why here's my two cents.

Vail -- love Vail, LOVE skiing there, love it BUT, to me, it feels like less of a town because you can't drive through the middle of it. That also makes it unique -- strolling the shops, etc.

Breck -- CUTE town, casual. People I know seem to love or hate the skiing there.

Crested Butte -- Fun little town, quirky, everyone knows everybody. Casual. Great skiing.

Telluride -- Beautiful. Far away though. I've spent the least amount of time here b/c of the distance and access in winter .

I guess If money were no object, I would personally choose Aspen. Stunning scenery, does not compare to Vail, Breck, and Crested Butte -- simply beautiful town, 4 ski resorts to choose from and summer and fall are truly glorious. Certainly, lots of different types of people there with wildly different income levels, can't get around it. So pretty though.

Clearly, you'd want to spend some time in each. Good thing about that is 1) what a great excuse for several terrific trips and 2) spending a couple of days in each, you'll be guaranteed to know which is right for you in no time flat.

I tend to talk in generalization, but the gist of what I said about those four cities is true. Crested Butte is noticeably devoid of trees. Treeline in the surrounding mountains is visible and close to town. This can be an important consideration for someone who plans to move there.

In contrast, someplace like Vail which is in a valley, is surrounded by trees. The mountains that nustle up against the town are covered in them. If you hit the hiking trails which are accessible from town, you are hiking in alpine forest, not on exposed rock like you are in Crested Butte. Again, could be important for someone who wants to live there.

The town of Breckenridge, due to being situated in a large valley which contain lakes, is open and exposed. But the mountains that sit next to town are alpine forest. You have to do a lot of hiking before you reach treeline.

Many outsiders who want to move to a Colorado mountain, don't think about these things. They have a mental image of forests and rivers and such, not realizing that large parts of the state are located above treeline. Making them aware of this helps in their decision where to live.

I was out Crested Butte way about 10 days ago. Can't quite imagine living there, or in Gunnison, for that matter. But I thought Montrose was a decent little city with more amenities that would get you in the area.

We really liked living in Crested Butte.

If you don't like a small "ski town" atmosphere then CB is not for you.

If you want a big city then go someplace else.
Vail/breck is like Denver with a ski area thrown in.
They lack local culture.

PS YES CB has trees, pine, and deciduous.
The lifts reach to the tree line.
In contrast, places like Crested Butte which is in a valley, is surrounded by trees. The mountains that nestle up against the town are covered with them.
