Hello!! I was hoping for information please! We are planning on moving to Colorado this summer when I finish school. Although we make about 150 thousand here in Nebraska, I think we will only be making about 80 thousand in Colorado, but hey its not Nebraska right?? We are not basing the city in which we live off of where we work but would rather choose a city and find a job from there. COULD YOU PLEASE give me good info about castle rock, fort collins, colorado springs. Our number one goal is safety for our four children. Housing budget we think will be 200,000. We want that small town midwest feel and nice/ polite neighbors. I need info on which city offers the best housing for price, and which city has the least amount of crime. Thankyou and God bless!

Not a smart idea. Unless if you're already independently wealthy-- or you're a-okay with working at walmart for minimum wage and going on welfare to support your 4 children. I'd go wherever in the front range region you can find a good career opportunity first, then worry about pinpointing specific towns to live in. And the bulk of jobs in the whole state are in the Denver metro area. There are good family-friendly places to live all over. Depending on your tolerances, Castle Rock may be commutable to the southern part of the Denver metro area. Fort Collins is a very hard place to find work in general if you didn't go to CSU or you're not already connected with the community.
With four little ones, I'd stay in Nebraska until/unless you secure a solid work situation here first.

I agree with previous posters. The job market here is not great. Do not give up $150K to move here if you don't have a job. Find a job then ask more questions, many will be happy to give you advice about where to live in relation to where you are/will be employed.

Yes, it's very nice here in COLO but IMO not enough to cut my income by $6k per month. Sorry, I'm not picking on the OP, just being honest. That $6k (per MONTH) will buy a LOT of airline tix to cities in Colorado allowing one to get their fix of COLO without the hassle of job changes and moving.

I'm feeling too lazy to look this up, but I would imagine that the cost of living in Nebraska, especially housing, is much less than in the Denver metro area. Particularly given the target price of $200,000 I don't think you will get nearly as much house as you would want with 4 kids in Denver.

Nebraska, I agree with the other posters. Just take a look at the actual data on each cities page here. Your budget of $200K for a house is well below the average cost of a single family house in all of the cities you are considering. You also have to consider that the cost of living in Colorado is significantly higher than Nebraska. Without having jobs lined up, it would be foolish to move your entire family to Colorado. Find the job(s) first, and then narrow your search based on that. Once you establish yourself in CO, you can be a little more picky about location. Definitely not the time to move a family in this economy with no job.

W O W... I guess my post was miss read
I would never move to another state without having a job. I simply met that I would like to choose a city first and then find a job in or near that paticular city before i move. I am a paramedic. I recently found out my budget for a house is 280,000... so i guess i low balled my estimate. My family is in Colorado and we want to be closer to them. We still may make the same or even more in CO then Nebraska if my husband decides to work out of town a couple days a week. I think I have decided on Castle Rock. Can anyone tell me about the town and property taxes? PS> Homes in Nebraska are about the same price as Colorado and I would rather make less money and live somewhere I love then be stuck out here on the prarie

I would never move to another state without having a job. I simply met that I would like to choose a city first and then find a job in or near that paticular city before i move. I am a paramedic. I recently found out my budget for a house is 280,000... so i guess i low balled my estimate. My family is in Colorado and we want to be closer to them. We still may make the same or even more in CO then Nebraska if my husband decides to work out of town a couple days a week. I think I have decided on Castle Rock. Can anyone tell me about the town and property taxes? PS> Homes in Nebraska are about the same price as Colorado and I would rather make less money and live somewhere I love then be stuck out here on the prarie
