Looking for tips on afffordable places to live in Colorado. I am single and 43. Enjoy hiking, road biking and riding horses. Would like to live up in the mountains. Love the small town atmosphere but with things to do. I am currently living in very small isolated town in Iowa. Also, a flight attendant so would have to have easy route to Denver airport. Thanks for any suggestions.

Yeah you can't have a mountain town and not have a nightmarish type commute to DIA, DIA is wayyyy out there in the middle of nowhere and far away from any mountains.

Not a nightmarish commute for me. I live just outside of Nederland, a small mountain town 18 miles west of Boulder. My commute to DIA is 65-70 minutes door to door. I do it just about every month, so do several of our neighbors. Not a big deal.

If you needed to be at the airport various hours and days of the week and in all kinds of weather then your best bet is to live in the Denver area and go to the mountains when you want. You can see the mountains from many areas in Denver, and deepening on where you're going they're not that far away. There are bike paths all over the city. If you lived up near Boulder then you'd be even closer to the mountains and could take US 36/I-270 to the airport, or E-470 (toll). Keep in mind that traffic anywhere near I-25 isn't that great and roads can be treacherous in the winter, especially if you live in the mountains.
