We have lived in Aurora, Colorado (moved here from Rhode Island, husband got transferred to DIA) for a year now and hate it. We are trying to find some really nice cities to live around DIA that are not Denver and Aurora...basically good cities to raise a family with a cheap/comfortable cost of living.....any suggestions?

We have looked at Castle Rock and Parker, but they are a little pricey for us and the commute is a little too long.

Thanks for all the help!!

My dad moved out to Brighton, which is near DIA. That area is growing quite a bit.

Can't say that I'd ever move to Brighton. Too far away from the mountains, too close to DIA and it gets awfully windy at times.

I also like Brighton. Strasburg & Bennett are nice towns, but they are located on "the plains". That means the roads (I-70) can be closed due to blizzards just east of E-470.

Have you looked at the new areas south and east of Southlands? Some is still Aurora, but some are upscale while not necessarily more expensive. Around there are E. Centennial, N. Parker and the areas along the Douglas/Elbert county line, all within less than a half hour drive from DIA. Anywhere from the Smokey Hill to Parker Rd exits along E-470 would be acceptable. Most of the area is very un-Aurora like, including some "McMansions" for less than $700k.

Check out High Point at 64th and Tower. Yes, it's "Denver and Aurora" but it's just open fields and some houses right now. That will change in time, though.

In the northeastern corner of Commerce City there's a fairly nice development called "Reunion." It very much purports to be like Stapleton, but of course without Stapleton's city location. It's also very convenient to DIA.

Other than Aurora and Denver, you have Brighton and Commerce City near DIA.
