Disdain for newcomers goes back to the state's beginnings and even before that. The original ranchers weren't real excited when the homesteaders showed up and fenced off the open range and neither particularly cared for the wild and crazy miners.

So, when I come from Texas, can I bring my stuffed armadillo and horned frog collection?

Only if you keep the longhorns on the front of your Hummer.

More importantly, don't bring the worst of your state with you.

Please elaborate. Just what are these "worst things" of which you speak? When I hear stuff like this I translate it to mean "I resent that you're bringing your cash here and outcompeting me". Would be curious to know what other traits besides this you find objectionable.

Graffiti, crime, gangs, sprawl, racism, road rage, litter, inconsiderate behavior, wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, gluttony, and anything else you'd rather not encounter on a walk through the mountains.

You think it's outsiders bringing those? Denver is a big urban city. I'm sure you're manufacturing all that stuff right there indigenously.

It's funny how people in the suburbs and exurbs get all wound up over stuff they read in their metropolitan newspapers about things that are probably occuring within a few block radius in the inner city. I live about 15 miles from Southeast DC, onced dubbed "the murder capital of the world". I've lived here 20 years and have never even locked my doors when I go out. The only "gangs" I ever encounter are the tree squirrels who shake down my bird feeders and the families of deer who eat my hostas. I can't imagine it's a whole lot different in the suburbs of Denver, Pueblo, or Colorado Springs.
