Place like Evergreen but not Evergreen :) (Boulder, Longmont: to live in, groceries, moving)

Hi, I grew up in Evergreen and the surrounding areas and moved to Florida to be near family about 8 years ago. We desperately want to move back but I don't want to live that close to my mother! LOL So Im looking either further north or South. We didn't really travel much then I guess. I want to live in a small town in the mountains but don't want all the height mountain snow or city life right in my back yard.

I grew up there too and can understand wanting something else.

I am not sure how north you would be willing to go but Lyons is really nice. It's small but still very accessible to Boulder and Longmont. It way more affordable too. Plus, I don't think that they get nearly the snow that parts of Evergreen gets.

I grew up in the Brook Forest area and we would get pounded with snow.

I would also check out the johnstown area.. I think thats what its called.. Anyways its a small town I think that its just a short trip outside of Boulder. Be warned though that about 1/3 of the people moving into the area are looking for the exact same thing so its really over populated the foot hills towns that were once hole in the wall places. Most of them now that are within a decent drive to any major city are going to be or are on the way to being way overcrowded.

Johnstown is really cute but it's not as close to Boulder as one might think, it's in the same general area as Firestone/Frederick - it's close to Boulder but still a 45 minute drive. What is nice though, is the drive is all scenic and not real heavy in traffic.

Johnstown is nowhere near the mtns. I believe it is on the east side of I-25. Nor is Lyons in the mtns, though it is close. The equivalent of Evergreen
to the north would probably be Estes Park, though it is much more of a tourist town than Evergreen.

Yes sorry I get the two names mixed up. I also forgot to mention of nederland up in the same area also. I think that we passed through there on the way to Jamestown a while back and I really liked the area up there and was thinking about a move to the area a while back. Just not to thrilled about the commute especially in the winter.

I"d take Nederland over Jamestown. A bit larger, more services: groceries, gas, etc. Also RTD service to Boulder, which might help on those snowy days.

Lyons is too in the mountains, it's on the way up to Estes Park.
