There is no question that your options would increase greatly if you could find the dog a good home before you move.

Real estate - rentals or sales - simply does not become active until late April. There tends to be something of a frenzy of activity in June and July, particularly in Ft. Collins and Boulder as they are both college towns. You will need to be in a position to make a decision and make it quick or you will likely lose out to someone else. It might be advisable for one of you to come out as early as April and take a weekly rental at one of those "suites" places.

Employment in your field aside, your goals are achievable. Thousands upon thousands have done it.

Lest you think we are 'lightweights' / ill informed / naysayers, We have trodden the same path and NEVER ran back home (there was no home to run back too).

I grew up in Estes and as an ME grad, developed lots of great products for NoCo inventors serving the Outdoor recreation industry. (including a heart rate / bike exercise monitor in 1976... yeah... new tech. (manufactured in Ft Collins) and T&F and swimming timing devices used in Olympics. (manf in Loveland), Yes... we had to do all the r&d and product design and marketing.. and then SELL the companies! We were making Frostline Kits and Camp 10 (Boulder) stuff in HS Home Economics, and got hints / classes from the founders of Outdoor Recreation)

If we were snarky kids... we wouldn't have cut the mustard, and been changing linens for tourists (outdoor recreation industry). I still have many friends in EP and NoCo who serve the industry and economy. I will assure them that their salvation is on the way from MN (again, as it is every yr) They will be very impressed.

Might want to have your parents read and interpret the thread, Objectively.

I would also say that if you want to bootstrap a company, Colorado probably is not the place to do so unless you have the trust fund to back you up. You want the wilderness access with the cheap cost of living which StealthRabbit had in 1970's Colorado but does not exist in 2014 Colorado. I'd recommend Wyoming or S. Idaho for that. W. Montana is about as expensive as Colorado but you may try Billings and E. Montana, which has a lower cost of living and some manufacturing.

Everytime I go to rep up an intelligent post, it tells me I must spread some around (to less intelligent posts) before giving it to the best posters again. /sigh.

There were some deserving posts in this thread, but sadly, I could not honor them.
