Eldora is about the closest ski area to a Front Range city (Boulder). You won't get to any others within less than an hour from the metro areas--often a lot more than that. Fort Collins and CSU are farther yet from any ski area. Sorry, you can't change geography. If you're going to CSU, I'd suggest living in Fort Collins.

If you want to be that close to a ski area and go to college--then you should look at Western State in Gunnison (Crested Butte about a half hour away), Fort Lewis in Durango (Durango Mountain about a half hour), Mesa State in Grand Junction (Powderhorn about an hour), or one of the Colorado Mountain College campuses. If you want a big university real close to skiing, University of Utah in Salt Lake City is less than an hour from Park City, Deer Valley, Alta, and Brighton/Solitude. You can ride a city bus to some of them.
