Anyone know about the commute to Carbondale from Glenwood Springs? I'm assuming Summer's would be ok, but what about in the Winter? And how long would it take one way?

Thanks for any info!

It's only about 20 minutes. Hwy 82 is very well kept, doesn't have any sharp curves or inclines, you may hit some commuter traffic but it's worse from Basalt to Aspen. You can also take the bus especially if you are uncomfortable driving in the snow RFTA - Roaring Fork Transportation Authority

I second Dogmama. You should have no problems commuting between Glenwood and Carbondale throughout the winter. It's a little over 10 miles, with speed limits of 55 and 65 the whole way, so 20 minutes is more than enough time to allow for the commute. Road conditions in winter also get worse from Basalt south, but that won't affect you. Keep in mind that tourism is huge, Roaring Fork residents are by and large wealthy, and that 82 is the only way into Aspen for half the year. And RFTA buses are always an option.

Wink Then, too

I have not driven that road in winter, so no exact idea. But CO 82 tends to hug the edge of the hills on the east side of that relatively narrow valley between Carbondale and Glenwood Springs. There could perhaps be areas prone to shade and icy spots.

As also mentioned, CO 82 from Glenwood Springs at I-70 is the road into Aspen. Many people who work but cannot afford to live there, live down valley in Glenwood Springs and farther removed. Expect a fair degree of traffic.
