Hey everyone, thanks in advance for any response. I am a single 25 year old guy from Upstate NY currently living on Long Island. Finished college a couple years ago, pursuing my architecture license. Long story short, I cant stand Long Island due to the high cost of living and due to the fact that at current real estate prices and my current pace, I will never be able to afford actually purchasing a home here (never mind the obscene taxes and utilities cost here). I have decided that the northeast is all just too damn expensive compared to many other areas in the country and I am looking for the right state.

I am a big outdoors guy, hiking, fishing, snowboarding, hunting, love it all, love the snow and the winter and the mountains. My concerns with Colorado is that it seems like it is starting to head the same way as NY and just getting more and more expensive and I dont want to move to the west coast just to be in the same situation I am here, except surrounded by mountains and on the other side of the country away from my entire family. I also am not a big fan of flying lol Out of the states I am considering now, Colorado is probably the long shot, but I traveled west last summer and absolutely loved the scenery/the outdoors there, it was incredible, and I would love to live in that environment. So how expensive is Colorado in general? I need to be within commuting distance of a major city area simply due to my profession, at least to start out. Again, thanks for any response!

Are you specifically interested in Colorado Springs? If not, I'll move this to the overall state forum.

Archie, I'll move it to the main Colorado Forum to widen the viewing and comments. I can move it anywhere you'd like.

With a view towards jobs in architecture IMO you'll be looking at the Denver area which is the big center for jobs for @500 miles in all directions. Denver is a great jumping off point for your interests, though if there's a decent job for you elsewhere in the state then we'd all advise you to take it and get in the game here.

Architects are a dime a dozen in Colorado. A good friend's son graduated with honors from one of the US's best colleges of architecture. After bashing his head against the wall for four years trying to make a living in Colorado, he changed careers. He's doing better now, but is considering leaving Colorado to move to a state where he might have a chance of making a decent living as an architect.
