My girlfriend and I are moving to Ridgway, CO because she got a job there. We are SOOO excited because the land is SO beautiful. We are just wondering...is Ridgway a safe place for a lesbian couple? We are from a very conservative small town in North Carolina and we are used to people coming up to us and cursing at us, throwing trash at us, threatening us with physical harm, etc. So, we aren't expecting people to throw rainbow confetti for us or anything...LOL. We just want to know if Ridgway is going to be another place where we will have to fear for our safety?

In general people in Colorado are far more accepting than people in small towns in North Carolina. I would be shocked if someone threw trash at you, those people need to grow up. I've only lived in Telluride, not Ridgeway so I can't speak for the town specifically but we have much more of a live and let live attitude out here. The Western Slope does have more of an Ag. culture but in general people out here are aren't idiots, you may encounter a few but likely far fewer than NC. Congrats on your move, it's a beautiful area.

I've lived in Ridgway for 6 years now. You and your gf will be accepted and be just fine. There is little to no crime. The town marshal goes home at 10 at night. Do a search on here about my posts on Ridgway and it will give you some insight to the town. It's a very laid back tourist town. Good luck to you and your gf!

Wow. It hurts me to know that there are ANY civilized areas in the US that are still this way. What a shame.

Well, by definition, I'd say such a place is *not* civilized.
