Hi guys! For business reasons we have to relocate to Dallas OR Denver. Now my question to you: What can you recommend us? We are a family with two kids and my favorite is Denver because we are very outdoorsy and I LOVE the mountains, hiking and skiing. But my fear is the cold in Colorado. I just checked the climate table and I'm freezing....for nearly seven months it seems to be very cold there. I know there a two types of coldness, wet coldness and dry coldness. In my opinion the dry coldness is more tolerable. What do you think? What can you recommend me?

Where do you live now?

Dallas is very hot about the same number of months per year...pick your poison.

Well, here it is May 10 and the local weather report says Denver will go down to 27 F. Brrrrrrr! I've seen it snow here in late May. The dry cold here is better than what the wet is, but when it gets cold enough, it's just cold period. While Colorado is not some awful icebox, it might feel that way to someone from Dallas or some other Southern town.

Check out this thread from the Denver forum a couple of months ago. This is a pretty comprehensive discussion of the differences between these two cities. And, if you feel compelled to ask further questions, move this post to the Denver sub forum.

You will not find this anywhere in TEXAS. I would pick Denver with no questions.

I like Texas in general, but I am not a fan of Dallas - the traffic, the heat. I would pick Denver in a heart beat over Dallas. I have lived in Austin and Houston, and I would pick Houston over Dallas without hesitation, if that helps.

If you like outdoorsy stuff, Denver beats Dallas.

Seems like a no brainer for you, no, given your preferences?

Given the outdoor activities you've listed I'd pick Denver. Dallas really isn't all that outdoorsy and the nearest mountains of any meaningful consequence are 8+ hours away.

Coming from Miami both cities will feel cold from roughly November to April.

I've lived in both and I'm not a fan of heat and humidity. I hated Dallas from May to October.

Denver is definitely better for the outdoors reasons. If you enjoy the weather in Miami, then you should strongly consider Dallas for the heat. The cold in Colorado is nothing like the midwest, but it is still cold and compared to Florida it could be shocking.
