I am thinking of moving to Colorado from Chicago in a couple of months and looking for recommendations on where to live. My original plan was to move to Alaska, I'm just not sure I could deal with the darkness and mosquitos. I love snow and cold weather, but also want to move somewhere where I can find work fairly easily (vet tech, groomer). One of my dogs is a pitbull, so also need to move somewhere they are not banned. I am only 25 and only bringing my dogs with(no friends or family) so would like to be somewhere where there are many people around my age.

Thanks!

What part of Colorado? It's a big state. Do you have a job already? Have you visited here?

I have not visited but cannot afford vacations, only to move and I'm bored of IL and have nothing worth staying here for. I am planning on renting a room and getting interviews set up pretty much the second I arrive. I was thinking around Boulder but after doing some research looks a bit pricey. Until I have a job looking to spend no more than 550 and that would only be for a room, not an apartment of my own. And I know Denver also would not work since I have a pitbull.

I would like to be in a colder area if possible, not sure exactly where that would be.

Colder means the mountains, unfortunately that conflicts with finding a job easily. Colorado really isn't the winter wonderland that some imagine it to be, the cold snowy areas are either expensive resort towns or there in the middle of nowhere and jobs are slim pickings.

I'd suggest you consider Colorado Springs as pits aren't banned and it has a good population (for Colorado) so you can probably find work. Since your going to be renting you can explore the state for a year and search for areas that might better suit your needs.

I figured it could get up to those temps in the summer, but it is far less humid there than in Illinois, right? Warmth I can handle, humidity is the main thing that drives me nuts.

If it's humidity your looking to escape then yeah you'll be much more at ease in Colorado, there's a lot of semi-arid low humidity climates.
