For after, you could consider further out in Pine Junction - Bailey - Pine area or Divide - Florissant - Lake George area. Laporte / Poudre Park, Lyons, Rifle...

The short answer is "yes." This is similar to my current lifestyle -> live in a sparsely populated community in the mountains with a 26 minute commute to work/city.

There are many mountain communities outside of Golden and Boulder (and continuing further north and south) which have access to jobs/city nearby. Sure, there are multi-million dollar homes, but there is also a wide selection of lower priced homes mixed in. Plenty of public land, parks, and trails in these areas so no need to find a place with huge acreage (but that's also possible).

Very hard to predict what the housing market will look like when you are ready to buy since it is so hot right now. You'll have to ask again when you are ready to move.
