Two choices and I have done both.

Do not get the extra set of wheel and pay Discount Tire $60 twice a year to switch back and forth.

Extra set of wheels and you will need to buy tire pressure monitors if your car has them and Disciunt will swap them for free.

I liked the extra wheels on my last car because I was able to go an inch smaller than the factory wheels. They gave a better ride with the winter pot holes, and the snow tires are cheaper on smaller wheels.

The downside is the investment up front and they are heavier if you are storing them on a shelf in your garage like I do.

Default Best Car? for Colorado

Time of year? location? Budget? Obvious for all around mobility(including recreation) 4 wheel drive or some sort of sport utility I have all wheel drive (Audi TT Quattro) that is great on mountain roads during summer (useless most of winter(snow)(car sits very low to ground) Jeeps seem to be popular We have older modified Landrover that is extremely useful at cabin in any weather condition Porsche Cayenne does well in most conditions (except 20 in.snow)

There is no single "best car" for CO; the potential vehicle could vary as widely as the terrain of the state. Some people need trucks with AWD and studded tires, while others can get along fine with just 2WD / front-wheel drive and all-season tires kept on year-round. It mostly depends on where one is (especially how flat or how inclined) and how much winter driving takes place.
