Montrose has been at the top of my list for potential places to move for many years now. I am finally at a place in my life where relocation is a very real option. While Montrose is at the top of my list I do have one major concern… Is it a good fit for a young adult?

I have visited the area a handful of times and have noticed a decent amount of retirees. I’m a single male in my early 30s. what is the scene like for people my age? Will I find it difficult meeting people?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you love the outdoors, hiking, fishing, etc., you'll like it here. If you want to go clubbing and party, not so much.

I love the outdoors, wouldn't want to move to Montrose if I didn't. My only real reservation about the area is whether or not it's too "old" for me.

You can get all sorts of great information on Montrose right here on City-Data. One statistic is that the median age in Montrose is 43, whereas the median age for all of Colorado is 36.

This from the 2000 Census: In the city, the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 20.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 90.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.

FWIW, in the last election 68% voted for Trump and 26% voted for Clinton (county-wide data).

CC Kid, I brought a seven week old thread up to date for you called "Where To Live In Montrose."

I would advise against moving to Montrose if you're single.

I lived there for a year and a half while I was in my mid-twenties. It was the worst 18 months of my adult life (so far). The social and dating scenes are non-existent, and while it's nice to be close to so many outdoor activities, that didn't make up for the town's other deficiencies.

I've outlined the cons of living in Montrose in other threads. I feel like I didn't make a single friend while I lived there, and my typical Friday night consisted of ordering a pizza and drinking beer on the patio by myself.

I have had 3 acquaintances from Montrose in recent years in their 20s & 30s. All had kids there, broke up and moved out; 3 isn't much of a trend, maybe... They love their kid, just not their exs or Montrose. But, other people are their own trip. Montrose surely works for some. I would expect to have work for it though.

Those were the guys. Thinking further, I guess I know 2 women from there or nearby with a similar pattern. In their 40s and 50s but had similar pattern in their 20s & 30s. But this pattern is pretty common in general.

I have heard them say high school cliques stay pretty strong among the locals. But not everybody is a local and some folks are better working their way in than others. Shy probably isn't going to work there.

I think it would depend on your day job and if that allowed you to meet people. If you are a remote or independent worker -- check out the Proximity Space for coworking space. They have a very hip, young vibe there. And 1GB internet too. There are a lot of younger single teachers too. And if you are a church-goer than you can definitely meet singles that way. There's not much of a bar scene and definitely not a club scene. But it's a wonderful place for outdoor recreation!
