Yes and no. A hyperloop tube failure would be like every single airplane en route from Denver to Chicago crashing within minutes of each other.

Colorado's pitch to build 360-mile Hyperloop from Pueblo to Wyoming would cost $24 billion

“I’ve said all along the state is not going to be the pockets for this,” Bhatt said. “The funding model will be key.”

Who but the state could / would pay $24 billion just for construction (assuming no fakery in estimate or cost over-runs)? Every national company on the front range?

If it was the state that would be about $4,500 per person plus whatever the interest cost was. So for family of 4, $18,000 financed. With interest it might something like $1200 per year for 30 years... and then there would be questions of capital maintenance, etc. Assuming operating revenues were set at 100% recovery. Which would be surprising. So if approved, everybody would pay that much, before use then whatever the user charges were for their use, if any.

Really doubt this goes big anytime soon.

Something I'd like to study more would be intra-city commuter air service within Colorado. Existing or newly organized, possibly public authority run, if it could reduce costs / increase loads.

So has anyone said anything about how this could positively and/or negatively impact FasTracks should Colorado win?

Security checkpoints for interstate travel, here we come! And you thought security at DIA was a downer. Colorado to NY or LA to Colorado would be interesting to see as far as real world transit times though.

That’s cool! My original question was “wonder why Pueblo was chosen?” - but it looks like they found a spot with enough space to build and test, about 20 miles east of Pueblo.

There is a history with Pueblo and alternative transportation. There is even a boneyard museum containing early renditions of exotic trains and even the prototypes for DIA’s trains. Someone with better Google skills than me might be able to find a link to it, but I walked the outdoor yard years ago. It’s out near the airport.

Edit, from what I could find online, it looks like some of the prototypes were moved near the Pueblo rail museum.

Here is one of the ones I remember.

There's been a rail testing facility out there for decades, makes great sense to put this out there too.
