I keep reading about housing costs, both buying and renting, and how high they are. About the traffic, which apparently is worse now, then when we lived in south Englewood (apartment) and Parker (house) from mid 2002 thru Oct 2007.

Denver is a vibrant city with a terrific dining/bar scene, one of the best places for arts and theater for a city its size, good job opportunities in multiple industries, nice weather and great access to world class recreation nearby.

There are jobs in other cities and areas, however Denver and metro does offer quite a few jobs.......depending on what a person does.
As far as "legal pot", not everyone is into smoking pot, and, from what I understand, pot isn't everywhere on The Front Range. Meaning, pot seems to be more in Denver and the metro area, perhaps the Springs, but not nearly as much in Larimer County.
"Allure of the Rockies".........that has to be more for snow skiing than anything else. When we lived there, we went to RMNP for the Elk "rut", to view Fall colors and drove up to the Summit. Also made some trips to Black Hawk for casino play.

Very true. And, you are right, we aren't looking at any of those above things. We are looking at lakes/boating, Bull Elk and rodeo action. The stuff we loved when we lived there.

Every city wants to be that, but saying it doesn’t make it so.
Denver metro is nearly twice the size of Jacksonville metro. It’s also the cultural and economic capital for a multi state region and Jacksonville is not.
Denver is younger, has less poverty and far more of the population has college degrees.

Will definitely agree with all of that. Although, 99% of the people here don’t understand why amyone would chose (or want to) live in a “Old Man Winter” area. There are lots of folks that move here, and other parts of Florida, from “Snowbelt” areas like New York and Massachusetts.
And, knowing how the crime is in both cities, Jacksonville does outdo Denver.

Moving to the Front Range has always been 'popular', and more so now with 420 laws and social media.
Popular = people / groupies.
(CA and TX (and IL
) have plenty of people who have yet to arrive in CO. (but are planning on coming))
Denver is almost within sight of the Rockies (on a clear day!) Then you and 3m others can rush to 'seek' the 'allure' of the rockies (Hint* stay located near WY, but be careful when going there with 'Greenie plates'. (keep a spare set of Bucking Plates on hand!). Not applicable if you are in a shiny new SUV... WY plates won't help change THAT image.

Ridiculous. “Almost within sight”. I’m east of Broadway and I can see the Rockies out of my bedroom window on this cloudy day.
I manage to get to the mountains nearly every weekend without much hassle. I tow a little camper all over the state in the summer and find plenty of peace and quiet. If you can’t, you’re lazy.
I get all that AND I live in a walkable neighborhood with kids running up and down the sidewalks with great restaurants and bars nearby. What’s not to like???
