416 fire at 30% containment. About an inch of rain on the fire. Now a mostly dry pattern again for 2 weeks with occasional modest chances of rain. July still forecast as very steadily wet.

The only area now under evacuation orders is the Falls Creek area. Pre-evacuation notices remain in effect for residences and businesses on the west side of County Road 203 from Trimble Lane south to the U.S. Highway 550 intersection, the 1000 block of County Road 204 to the Colorado Trail access, and County Road 205 north from the intersection of County Road 205 and 204 to the Falls Creek Ranch subdivision entrance.

Sunday night, officials reported the fire had burned 34,161 acres and was 30 percent contained. A total of 1,087 personnel were on the fire. As of Sunday, the costs to battle the 416 and Burro fires had hit $17 million, according to the National Interagency Coordination Center Situation Report for Sunday.

Rain helped cool the fire over the weekend, but it did not put it out, said Type 1 Incident Management Team spokesman Scot Davis.

Dry fuels and hot embers are still present, he said.

We are supposed to have cooler temps for the next couple of days, but then it's back to the low nineties again. Hopefully this breathing space will be enough to allow firefighters to contain a significant percentage of both fires, although the Burro fire is predicted to burn until the monsoon hits in a couple of weeks or so.

The 416 update a few minutes ago also said the fire is not considered totally cold until the monsoons and the forest is still exceptionally dry.

NORWOOD, Colo. – Containment of the lightning-caused Upper Mailbox Fire near Redvale, CO has been increased to 50 percent today. The fire is being managed by the Southern Idaho Type 3 Incident Management Team through a joint delegation with the Bureau of Land Management and Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control. The fire size remains at 474 acres as fire activity has been minimal with no additional spread. Firefighters are continuing to focus their efforts on securing the fire’s perimeter by completing control lines and extinguishing any smoldering fuels along the fire’s edge. Smoke may remain visible as fuels within the interior of the burned area continue to smolder.
All pre-evacuation notices previously issued to nearby residences have been lifted and the BLM campgrounds in the area have re-opened. The public is asked to continue to avoid the immediate fire area due to remaining hazards and ongoing firefighting operations.
“I am very appreciative of the hard work of our firefighters and continued support from the community,” said Brandon Lewis, Fire Management Officer for the Bureau of Land Management. “The recent moisture played in our favor last weekend; although, I anticipate things will dry out quickly and we will be back into critical fire conditions before we know it. It’s important that everyone remains careful and aware that most areas are still in fire restrictions”.
