Red flag warning for Mesa County this weekend. It was 93 degrees yesterday, and a couple hours ago the wind kicked up to 30 to 35 m.p.h.

A close call was averted yesterday afternoon as a truck caught on fire at milepost 46, traffic was shut down on the interstate. It is close to the Island Acres campground and those people were evacuated, several rural crews are in there keeping it contained. At last notice on KJCT news, 170 acres are burned.

Am thankful that the eastern slope is faring better, I maintain that Governor Hickenlooper should insttute a campfire ban for the western slope, and the five day forecast is the same--no storms coming.

Today's fire north of Durango has one conspicuous omission. What started it? None of the media including the Herald have said it but, pretty good chance it was the train. Doesn't matter that we're in a stage two fire declaration, the train gets a pass. Can't stifle the tourist dollars!
From my home I've watched the air support attack this fire. Very impressive. Their not giving it any slack. With winds gusting in the 40s they can't afford to. We have a lot more resources this year thanks to funding. Fed.local and state responders are pounding it. I'm seeing jet slurry bombers in continuous round trips about every 15 min. from Laplata Airport. Fire is in the Mitchell Lakes area, a great piscatorial spot that so far is not on a lot of people's radar.

Sirens just went off here at 0130. No sign or alert of fire any nearer than the CDOT postings about north of Durango.
