Parked in the South Lot. Had prepaid tickets to Oak Ridge Boys. Great seats. 90 degrees, dying of thirst, went to first lemonade stand. Handed over a $5 bill. We don’t take money. You need Magic Money. $40 later, 20 minutes of us blankly staring at the attendant, went to a vending machine and got a Magic Money wristband. Went into the sports bar and showed my $40 wristband. They were completely clueless. A few minutes later they told us that Magic Money scanner only works in the carnival area.

I get it now. Hours later. It is EZ-Pass. Why was this so complicated? Tell me in advance where it works or not.

Update: Finally made it to a lemonade stand, she zapped my pass and showed me the scanner said $5. Used it one more time, my balance is now $22. Too lazy to figure out what happens to the $22 if I do not go back. It is all good. Fun day seeing everyone.

The people working there were even less amused by this stunt than me. They spend all day telling people we do not take real money. Here, you can only spend Magic Money.

How hard can it be to hand out maps with “pre-paid computer chip only” and “cash/credit card” areas clearly shown?

The only place you can not use cash is in the midway. They own and operate everything there. In the rest of the fair you can use cash.

You mean to say we can't use our Bitcoins at the fair? I'm crushed. Crushed I say.

I liked the "Magic Money" part of this story - though not the end result - and wonder who came up with that.

No magic cigarettes?

Speaking of magic. I hope they get one of those magical Woody Allen phone booths where you dial the right number and you have an orgasm.

That's at the house in Genesee.

BTW, do I need to contact a moderator about the racy comment?

@Josseppie, I get it now, but a state fair is supposed to be fun. Not dealing with this ambush of no cash accepted. If the plan is to get rid of people like me, it is working.

The fair does not control the midway as they pay rent to the fair then run it themselves and I think they do this in all the fairs they go to. I do not eat in the midway as the rest of the fair takes cash and i do not feel like getting a card.
