If she gets a foot of snow in Cortez she'll make an ice fort and call it the Alferd Packer BnB. (Four-Star Rated by AAA!).

Yikes!!

Joss, I meant the area Colorado Rambler lives in (Cortez). Yesterday the local NBC affiliate reported Wolf Creek's ski base at 124 inches. The prediction for today and tomorrow is a foot in Durango and Cortez, and much higher in the mountains.

Good for you guys!

Just watched GJ's NBC affiliate KKCO and noticed the ski report.
Silverton Mtn.--112 inches
Purgatory--97 inches
Wolf Creek--148 inches

I stomped around the Four Corners a lot in the late 60's-mid 70's and these totals were just a little higher than when I was there. And traveling the OLD Wolf Creek Pass? Whoa! The new one is a piece of cake!

Am happy you guys are getting pounded down there!

US National Weather Service Denver/Boulder Colorado
Be prepared for a cold and active wintry pattern Friday through the weekend. Heavy snow and strong winds in the mountains, with heavy snow possible in the Front Range Foothills and adjacent plains. By Sunday, high temperatures in Denver will only be in the teens.

I-70 right now is a mess. KJCT is the ABC affiliate for the western slope and they were just showing pictures of an avalanche at mile marker 197, which I believe is around the halfway point between Copper Mountain and Frisco. That stretch I'm very familiar with, have been on that road a couple hundred times in five decades. The Colorado State Patrol is saying there are several cars that are trapped and yes, this major slide covers both sides of the road.

Serious situation here. This apparently has just happened in the last hour and I can't even imagine how bad the traffic has backed up here, particularly the eastbound stretch. The exact spot is called Ten Mile Canyon.

Here's a video made earlier today of an avalanche on I-70.

I just checked all the CDOT cams along that stretch of road and it seems to show traffic moving.

Another scene after it was over.

CBS-4 In Denver video.
