Hello, my family of 3 (me, wife, 3yr old) will be visiting Durango in August. We will drive from Denver airport to Durango and then stay there for about 4 nights. However, we will have about 2 more days to spend somewhere. I am guessing we want to be in or near Denver so we can easily catch our flight back on the third day. We will have a rental car.

Questions:
  1. Should we stay in Denver the 2 days before we fly back home?
  2. Does anyone have any suggestions on things to do in the area in or near Denver that will be fun for a 3 yr old?
  3. Is there a recommended park in the Denver area for our kid to run and play?

Follow ups:

- Should we stay in Durango at least 4 nights or should we stay shorter/longer? We plan to do the durango train and Chuckwagon Dinner, but looking for more ideas...
- Do we need to stay in Denver when returning or is there another city/town that may be better ? Colorado Springs? etc?

The Children’s Museum in Denver is great. Very 3 year old friendly.

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is the largest museum between Chicago and LA. It has some good hands on exhibits for the littles. It’s in City Park and has a big splash pad right outside the museum.

Washington Park in Denver has a new play area for kids. It’s a great place to spend some time. There is ice cream nearby at Bonnie Brae Ice Cream.

The zoo or the aquarium should be good for little kids.
