If you're looking in tech, Denver/Boulder/Lakewood/Aurora is the big dog. Colorado Springs/Pueblo is a distant second, and Northern Colorado is an even more-distant third.

FWIW, Aurora is the most diverse large city in the state. It's about 16% Black, 5.7% Asian, 29% Hispanic, and just under 20% of the city's residents are foreign-born.

If you choose Aurora, try to stay somewhere that's easily commutable to either Downtown Denver or the Denver Tech Center. That's where most of the IT jobs close to Aurora are. Avoid DISH/EchoStar like the plague. There are very well-documented reasons why it was once voted the worst company to work for in America.

Your $1500 rental budget could be problematic.

I wrote up Cliff's Notes on what living in Denver is like. It can be found here.

Hiking pictures are here. (I need to add more pics)

If you’re trying to get into tech I would try to find a place around Aurora Denver. Most tech companies are down around the Tech Center.

You aren't going to get more than a 1 BR for $1500 anywhere near Denver. IF you can find a job in Colorado Springs, I'd consider it. It is a lot less expensive and it's a beautiful area. As soon as some tech companies move there, prices will skyrocket.

It's already happening with rent AND housing prices in Co. Spgs., even without tech companies moving in.

Interesting information on the housing. I'm leaning towards the safeside of 1500, but as it stands it appears your state is going through the same thing that all of the greater Los Angeles area is going through.... Which leaves me with a huge question mark lol. Depending on the prices 358 days from now we may or may not be heading out there.

I agree. The "nodes" for high tech employment are: downtown, Denver Tech Center, Broomfield and Boulder. If you should land a job in Boulder, you don't have to live there.

That was inexcusable, but unfortunately I think something similar could happen in most cities in the USA. In this case, the officer resigned before dicisplinary action could be brought against him.

Agree. The Springs is the most diverse place in CO. Race and ethnicity is part of it, but the bigger factor is the cognitive diversity, people are just more varied and have all sorts of different backgrounds and interests. Boulder's such a weird place, they like to celebrate diversity and inclusivity, but in reality the people are a bunch of privileged clones. I don't fault it for what it is, it's a innovative and nice place, but their message doesn't match their vibe. In June they mandated every store to have a rainbow flag for Pride, but there's not one gay bar in the city...

I most always do not recommend the Denver area for mid income families. Any house you end up getting will be crappy or have a bad commute. COS would work, it's libertarian central for sure, but the job markets not stellar and it's gotten decidedly more expensive.

If you could actually land a job in Pueblo, that would be a good spot future looking I believe.
