"Colorado is home to more than 400 species of birds and is located in the middle of the Central Flyway — which means it’s a stopover for migrating birds from mid-February until May.

Right now, bald eagles that have wintered in Colorado are pairing up, and migration season starts soon. There’s no better time to get out your birder’s checklist and plan some outings."

If you're interested in birds, check out several important local organizations and events - Aiken Audubon society has a website and a Facebook page and hosts monthly meetings and regular field trips - all free.

Pikes Peak Birding and Nature Festival is an event every May hosted by many different organizations working together offering a weekend of seminars, field trips, and more - registration typically starts in March.

Colorado Field Ornithologists is a state-level organization that hosts an annual convention and also has a webpage and Facebook page, etc., - this year the convention will be in Pueblo in May.

El Paso County Parks and Nature Centers host a variety of activities year round, some of which include birding events.

May is prime migration season for this part of the country.
