I will be traveling from Flagstaff to Denver and want to know if I should go North up through Utah on hwy 191 to I-70 and then east to Denver

or

take I-40 East to Albuquerque then I-25 North to Denver

Both are about the same time, but the second route is mostly interstate all the way.

When are you coming, and what is your goal (quickest route, most scenic route, easiest in bad weather)?

Possibly this weekend, quickest route to avoid bad weather. I have 4X4 truck with good tires if needed.

Seeing as the southerly route is all interstate and is only a few minutes longer than the I-70 route (which can be choked with ski traffic), I'd opt for I-40->I-25.

If it's snowing definitely I40 to I25 but watch out for the Palmer Divide between Colorado Springs and Denver. The snow can get tough there. Still better than the continental divide though.

High day temps along southern option this weekend should be 50s / 60s most of the way with expected clear skies.

I'd avoid night driving if you can to reduce drunk driver risk. Keep at least a quarter tank of gas. There may be spots where gas is 50 plus miles apart.

I just drove I 70 east from Grand Junction on Monday. Drove on ice from Gypsum to Frisco. They then closed Vail Pass for 45 minutes because of wind. What should have been a 3.5 - 4 hour drive, took 7 hours. Take the southern route. The central mountains right now are so unpredictable.
