Been living here for almost 3 years now, and I friggin' love it. I myself am a transplant, moving here from Seattle, but originally from DC.

Not sure if its the federal government, 300 days of sunshine, or the Rockies that attract so many out-of-towners, but I swear I most of the people I know aren't natives of Colorado. For example, I work in an office downtown of about 26 people. Of those 26 people, only six of them are from Colorado. six! The other 20 are from all over. East coasters like me, Texas, California, Wisconsin, Chicago, etc.

So my question is, for both natives and transplants, are most of your friends, neighbors, coworkers from somewhere else in the country? I'm sure it will be different for natives, as you've got friends you grew up with and have known for years. But as a federal gov't transplant, of my 6-7 close friends, none of them are from Denver.

Not that I'm basing my estimate on any facts (LOL), but I swear it seems like a good 40-50% of the people in the Denver metro area are from another state.

Yeah, it seems that way. I moved here from California. Most of my friends/neighbors are from somewhere else. I bet if you go to some of the older, more middle class neighborhoods around the metro area you would find more natives.

Same here. Most people I met are transplants but I've only been here 3 months and only met people in Downtown area where I live (where most people would be transplants)

I recall seeing a number near 60 percent of people are from out of state. It might seem shocking, but it is likely very similar to the percentage if out of staters living in major transplant magnets like DC, Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte, Raleigh, and Dallas. These are all really transient cities. So it is by no means a Denver thing.

Denver nearly doubled in size between 1990-2000 and that is when most folks arrived, but you'll find a lot who came here in the 70s or just recently.

Having grown up here, most of my friends are also from here. Many newcomers join a newcomers club, and make friends with other new arrivals. Birds of a feather flock together.
All in all, Denver is much like most other large, dynamic U.S. cities. With commerce you have a lot of folks relocating on an ongoing basis.
You want demographics with mostly CO natives? You'll find them in rural, non-resort parts of the state.

I'm a transplant (St. Louis originally, a number of places in between there and here.)

Of my current team where I work: Boss is a native, one coworker is a military brat (claims no place), another is from California, and the last is from Cheyenne (and jokes he claims being from Colorado anyway because Cheyenne is 'close enough'.)

My previous work team: South Dakota, Florida, Cuba (yes, the country), North Carolina, another military brat (claimed no place), Colorado, California, Alabama, India, Hawaii.

My closest friends: Colorado (5), Louisiana, New Jersey (3), Kansas (but moved here at the age of 2), Arkansas, Wyoming, Illinois (moved here when she was 3), Pennsylvania, England (moved here when he was 10), Nebraska.

I meet very few natives here.
