Lots of great info here.

Just found out I'm getting relocated from Middle Georgia to Colorado, likely Denver area. I work from home, wife willl likely go to the office, looking for a job in the IT field. Oh, and we got 2 border collies who need room to run.

So I'm looking for somewhere that offers a small town feel, close to the mountains but not necessarily in them. a house on 1/2 acre or more...and a reasonable commute to Denver. I'd like to keep it around 400K if I can.

I looked at Conifer and Evergreen but the commute seems to be too much, 1 hour +.

Not too worried about the weather. If it gets too bad I can drive my wife and go into the office, my customer who I'll visit on a monthly basis.

So what about Golden??

Parts of lakewood, Arvada will fit, or Parker - IT jobs will either be in the DTC area, Interlocken or Downtown...Get the job first, so the commute will be tolerable.

Golden is very nice. The commute from Denver to Evergreen is not bad, can be 35 to an hour depending on the part of Evergreen. 2bindenver is right though, many of the IT jobs will be in DTC in which case you might want to look at castle rock or parker of you end up in the DTC. If you end up at Interlocken, look at Broomfield, Golden, Boulder, or even Brighton (lots of land for the money)

Good luck! Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

thanks for the replies.

My wife and I will be out in middle August for our first look. Brighton is another place that comes up often. Would prefer to west of I25 but will have to look at all our options. Parker is another town that comes up. Thankfully we'll have a little time to shop around

I have a brother in law who lives in Erie but seems like everything is on a 1/4 of an acre or less.

That is the situation for the vast majority of suburbs in the metro area.
