I agree with onthemove. YOu take 23 percent of my income and tax the hell out of me, and you still want more? ANd then the elected officials have the nerve to cry poor all the time. When I registered my 02 dodge Ram 1500 here, I nearly had a freakin stroke when I was told it was going to cost me $445 a year. THat is absolutley rediculous. When is it going to stop? I mean Jesus, my dad has to spend $1200 a year to register his BMW!!!!!! WTF?
All in all, Colorado is a middling tax state. If you do your research, you will find that Colorado has pretty much average vehicle registration fees, a fairly high fuel tax, fairly high sales taxes, an average income tax, and one of the lowest residential property taxes per dollar of fair market value in the nation. So, it sort of balances out.

I don't like high taxes any better than anyone else, but as long as the dear ol' public votes themselves all kinds of benefits out of the public treasury, you're going to have taxes higher than you would like. And no one is holding a gun to your head and making you drive a vehicle that costs a lot of money to register. You could drive a 10-year old vehicle like I do that costs relatively little to register. If you can't afford to register a vehicle, then you probably couldn't afford it in the first place.

That's the problem. I can afford the vehicle just fine. I just wasn't prepared for that high of a registration fee. BTW, my previous vehicle was 15 years old, so i figured it was time for an upgrade. Nothing new, i mean it's an'02, it's 6 years old. I almost choked when the clerk at the BMV told me what I owed for my plates.

I guess for this very reason, i will NEVER own a new vehicle, and I mean NEVER.

Oh and as far as property taxes go? I could care less, because I rent. Hell will freeze over before I buy a house in this town, in this market.
