Greetings All,

I am looking to move to your wonderful state and need some advise on where to live in regards to Denver Airport (where I will be working).
I live a very active lifestyle (triathlons, biking, hiking, etc..) and was thinking of Boulder. According to mapquest it is 29 miles away and should take no longer than 35 min or so BUT as I currently live in Boston, a 29 mile commute usually takes about a day and a half and is a full on white knuckle, energy draining, everyone for themselves drive.

Is the commute from Boulder to DIH not doable? If so, can anyone recommend an area that is similar to my particular hobbies/lifestyle? I am single with no kids so things like schools and such are not a concern.

Thanks!!

Depends upon the time of the day you'll need to commute. If you're able to travel in off hours, you might make Boulder-DIA in an hour or so.

Boulder's traffic is getting pretty congested all day long, so getting out of Boulder itself can be slow.

The Denver traffic "rush hour" now starts about 6:30-7AM and lasts for hours, then starts again around 2:30-3PM and lasts for hours. That's in clear driving weather. It doesn't matter which direction you're going, it's all very intense traffic now.

Add in intense low morning sun restricting visibility, a minor car accident or stall, and the traffic flow gets screwed up in both directions. Of course, winter snow/ice adds a lot of time to the trip, especially if there are fewer open lanes for the traffic flow.

I think you'd do better to buy out closer to DIA and travel to the places when/where you do your recreation.

I'd suggest Stapleton or Lowry for an eaisier commute to work & to play. You could live in Broomfield, Thornton, Northglenn , Commerce City, Lafayette or Louisville for a more suburban experence and still a quick commute on the toll road NW pwky/ E-470.

Buffalo Run is one of the communities that has golf course living near DIA - you may want to check them out

Overall Denver traffic is nothing like Boston traffic, but some of the heaviest traffic is north of town. With that said the Map Quest estimate seems a little low. Back east you felt lucky if you only had to commute an hour to work, but people in Denver think a one hour commute is a form of medieval torture. In Denver people also think that in is unbearable when rush hour traffic is moving at 35mph instead of 65mph.

I like 2BinDenver's suggestions.
There is a bus that goes between DIA and Boulder, if that is your thing.
I don't know how often it runs.
There is also a bus that leaves out of Stapleton Transfer Station every 15 minutes or so. It's just kind of nice to sit and veg or read or something and let the busdriver handle the traffic.

Could you take CH 7 to I-25 and then get onto E-470? I don't know the status of that northeast sector of E-470. Is it finished and is it extending on to Golden yet? (Denver's attempt at a beltway)

http://www.e-470.com/Default.aspx?tabid=110

Basically C-470 runs from 6th Ave/I-70 to I-25. E-470 (toll)runs from I-25 to NW Parkway (toll) which runs to the Route 36 (the road to Boulder.)

I was thinking of a way to avoid that Turnpike traffic. Would it be quicker to drive east through Laughalot or Louisville to I-25 and catch the north section of E-470?
