We just spent two wonderful(cool)weeks in Grandy at the YMCA ranch of the Rockies. We are thinking about relocating there when my husband retires from teaching in a few years. We are looking for a place in the country with at least an acre (more would be better), not just pine trees but a mixture of different kinds, about 15-30 inches of snow in the winter, and we would like to pay cash so about $100,000-200,000 dollars. Does a place like that exist? I love the green meadows and cool temperatures in the summer. Any help you can give would be appreciative. Thanks, Tina

This needs to be relocated to the general CO thread, not Colorado Springs. Good luck with your search though!

In our area, you can search in the Divide, Cripple Creek area for land. You might be able to get an acre for that price.

Heaven is expensive...

Grand Junction gets even less snow than that, but there are no pine trees. However, there are lots of big old cottonwooods along the rivers.

But not exactly the cool summers the thread starter's looking for.

That's for sure! In the summer of 2007, we had 79 days with high temps of 90 or above, including 10 triple digit highs. So far this year, there have been 14 days in the 90's. No triple digits....YET.

You can't have alpine forests with only 15 inches of snow. The mountain forests are there BECAUSE of the heavy snows. Anything with less than 30" of snow is going to be high desert. I'd recommend that the OP look into northern NM -- there are some rugged, mountainous areas there that get little snow with some pinon-juniper trees around.
