Moving to Colorado from Phoenix (Denver, Colorado Springs: schools, living, cost of living)

Hi to all,

My family and I ( wife and a 5 month old ) are looking at moving to Colorado in the coming months if all pans well with the job that I am pursuing. I work in Law enforcement and my wife works as a Certified nursing assistant. I have been to Colorado once and stayed a couple of days in Golden and I do absolutely love what I saw and feel. Also spoke with a lot of people in regards to the weather and while we are NOT so used to the heat and humidity in Phoenix we already know that we would love it in Colorado.
The agency that I am applying to will pretty much send you where they need you so I was wondering if anybody on here could be kind enough to tell me areas that are relatively safe considering my profession. I know its a long shot since I can't narrow it down to a specific geographic location/are but still any pointers will be really appreciated.

What's your expected housing budget? Front Range, Eastern Plains, High Country, or Western Slope? Big city, small town, or suburbs?

If you've only got a 5-month-old schools won't be a huge priority yet so that opens up your options quite a bit.

Will they be sending you all over the state or in a general area like Denver or Colorado Springs?

Next to impossible to do without this info. You could be out in Limon, up Buena Vista, down in Florence, in Denver proper or any of numerous other areas throughout the state. Safety, cost of living, housing varies so widely between all these places that information at that level of detail is difficult to give right now.

We have a budget of between $2000- $2500 . And ideally a suburb wherever I get posted to. I love the outdoors and so does the wife but nothing is set in stone yet..

Longmont or Lafayette are not far from Boulder, some nice areas . Longmont has some less expensive areas but not as nice as Lafayette.
