I attempted a search on Pueblo, CO from google and based on what comes up....it does not look very appealing?!?! -Possibly the city did a poor job in representing itself or is it really that basic?

-We are considering many possible moves from Maui as we need a change.....Boise, ID....Colorado(Pueblo, CS) to name a couple. Any thoughts? Aloha

Do a search in here, there's lots of threads on it. I love it here and moved from Boston. Coming from Maui though, it's apples and oranges. I think I'd prefer the beach any day

Default Pueblo suburban and rural photo tour

I thought I'd use this as an opportunity to post my photo tour. I took a drive down to Pueblo a few months ago and spent a day there and Canon City. I think Pueblo is a really unique, historic town with a lot of flavor with a potential to rebound some day. The only areas that I think I would feel comfortable living in are the north suburban areas and Pueblo West. One thing that fascinated my about Pueblo was the abundance of southwestern/ Mediterranean style architecture. I feel like Pueblo is sort of the northernmost outpost of the southwest. The town actually feels more like a New Mexico than a Colorado town, IMO.

Yes, this IS Pueblo, Colorado-- not Phoenix or Las Vegas.

Unbelievable that those things can grow in Colorado. I wonder if there are any yucca palms in Denver?

Ditto that. [Crematia's comments. I hadn't seen Vegas's pics yet! Must have posted at the same time.]

Here's a thread titled Why is Pueblo So Cheap which I recently revived to throw in some recent pics of my town. This thread is also the thread that brought me to City-Data. Someone from Arizona was slamming my town negatively and I wanted to comment. I've since learned the virtue of being honest about a town's bad side as well as the good side to be truthful of potenial inhabitants.

I've found in my experience that Always and Never in relation to people and towns are both lies. The truth is somewhere in-between. I think Pueblo is rough around the edges a bit, and driving down I-25 is not a good way to get a feel for the town. I personally like driving down I-25 and am proud of what Pueblo is and what Pueblo is not.

In some of these thread you may or may not have seen are an array of opinions and experiences about the town. I hope you at least check it out a bit. It's got a rough edge to it in some ways, but it's also got a lot of character. I personally think it's way different than Colorado Springs and Denver and stands on it's own. Although it recieves SO MUCH support from Colorado Springs and Denver and we DO appreciate that. Colorado Springs is definitely at better "City" than Pueblo will ever be in many ways, but I don't care much for it. If I want to move to the "City", I'm going all the way and going to a much better city in my opinion and experience, which would be Denver.

I have a thread going here that describes good Mexican food in Pueblo right here. I hope to get an Italian food thread up soon.

Enjoy.

ADD: Wow! Thanks Vegas! That's that New Mexico style you're talking about. Can I hire you to help me with my landscaping out in the Pueblo West Desert?

Vegas, you might also check out the southwest side of town too if you get the chance.

By the golf courses and Aberdeen seem pretty nice too! I elaborated about it a bit and left a link here.

What is the ZIP for the Northern suburban section of Pueblo? Are there other ZIPs that might be desirable home areas?

Hey Maui, if you're still out there lurking or otherwise, check out my pic thread of Pueblo here at Pueblo Photo Tour Links. I stayed up till the wee hours of da mornin' getting these together. I did a little photo tour and merely scratched the surface. With all this effort, I hope I got a few good pics.

Bideshi, here's some zip info for Pueblo. It looks like it goes from 81001 to 81012. It's just too scattered about with gems hidden about the town to nail it down to a zip. I can't figure it out that way anyway. Good luck though.

Pueblo, it's like I said, outside of this area, land is so cheap. Everything is relative and crime is not that bad. Like I have stated it all depends where you come from. Try driving around other areas of the country at night that are much worse. I am originally from East Cleveland, Oh, and my wife is from Barranquilla, Co. Try walking around those areas at night and say they are "safer" than Pueblo, I don't think so, so everything is relative. I feel that Pueblo, is up and coming and I cannot wait to buy some land in the nearby area. You people really need to stop getting on the "ghetto" thing, it is not that bad here. Sorry, I just feel that way, spent 3 1/2 years of my life busting down doors in Afghan and Iraq, but I love this country and all it has to offer, and I love the west, and have nothing but good things to say about Pueblo.

How is it amazong that yucca grows in Colorado? It grows all over the southwest/southern mountain west regions. Yes. i have only seen the tall yucca in southern colorado, southwest colorado, and western colorado in the high desert areas, but yucca and small cactus grows as far east in this region as the beginning plains in new mexico and colorado. Pueblo really is one of my favorite areas in Colorado, seeing as i love the high desert areas of Colorado much more than the rugged mountain areas and the rolling hills and land of the high plains, which i find boring.

Ahhhhh, the pictures above remind of why i love Colorado, especially the desert areas in southern, southwestern, western, and northwestern CO. Absolutely love Pueblo! It may be rougher in some areas and have a tad bit higher crime than other western cities, but it does have character, and great food!!! Denver and C-Springs have good food too, but Pueblo definitely runs colorado as far as great food goes. Somebody needs to tell that Anthony Bourdain that CO is not a culinary and cultural wasteland. Hey, we have great green chili and great New Mexican/Southwest Cuisine as well! Tell him to go down to Pueblo and eat at some of the local places. Pueblo is beautiful, despite its economic and city problems.
