We are floridians going to copper mountain in January. 2 small kids and 2 adults. I know what we have to wear for skiing. But not sure what is appropriate for regular walking around, dinner, sleigh rides. What do you wear for pants? Are thermals under jeans or sweat pants ok? Any tips?

Bring lots of warm clothes for the kiddies. Adults can usually get by with jeans, maybe with long underwear if it's really cold; sweaters and ski jackets. Everyone needs hats and gloves/mittens, warm socks and boots.

Copper Mountain is very cold at night and quite often has the nations lowest overnight temps.

Jeans are fine. I would wear a thermal layer under your jeans if it is very cold. Sweatpants are fine for just walking around, but not for going out to dinner. (Not that Copper is a fashion place, but sweats are not really appropriate.) By "thermals" I hope you mean a base layer made fom polyester, silk or wool - NO COTTON! Blends are great. Some brands are Duofold, Polar Max, Under Armour, SmartWool, Capilene, to name a few. And always keep your head covered.

I would think sweat pants would be too drafty.
Jeans with thermals would work. When I'm in the mountains in winter I wear thermals with my hiking pants and for my upper body I wear a long sleave plaid shirt with a windbreaker. Gloves and wool cap.

Thanks everyone! I'm glad we can still wear jeans with a baselayer. Didn't want to buy even more new clothes we will only wear 1 week.
