To Pastor Bill; it looks like things were cleaned up. This is good.

I'm not an expert to Pueblo and all of its hidden treasures yet, but I've heard that Pueblo is sort of a blend of 5 distinctly different towns that have come together. This is evidenced by the roadways throughout the town.

We can talk about some of the "In My Opinion" great Italian and Mexican cuisine, or we can talk about Pueblo's robust nature to battle the ups and downs in an economic sense, or the historic nature of the architecture of some of the neighorhoods, residential and commercial brought on by the boom of the once thriving Colorado Fuel & Iron steel mill... but I'd like to know what other interests you may have about the area besides your Pastorial duties. It seems like you'll be set in providing for your family, but what will you do for recreation, where will you shop, what will you do for culture? What opportunities will the community provide you with to lend a hand? (?? I couldn't figure out how to word that). For example, my cousin is a retired Parole Supervisor from the Denver area. Although he's long since been retired, he is a courier of some sort for Pueblo and Pueblo West. I've seen write-ups about him in the Chieftain from time to time. He's done more for the community than I could even dream to do.

What I'm trying to say is; many towns have way more to offer than meets the eye. I've noticed a few other posters on here from the Pueblo/Pueblo West/ and even the Colorado City/Rye/San Isabel communities, but we're not really heavily represented here yet- on a consistent basis. For example, I recently came across a poster from Denver who is married to an old friend of mine. I have yet to come across a poster that I know in real life in this area. I guess what I'm saying is... as big as City-Data is, it's still in its infancy. Until we get about 1000 posters from the Pueblo area alone, we won't get a real feel for what the town is really like and what it has to offer. Well maybe only about 100 posters like me. I'm a real C-D addict.

To Earnest: Well those apts sound pretty good to me. How can you go wrong with clean rooms and a nice pool? I still don't know which apts those are. Oasis is one I see whenever I drive through there. Watch out for those motorcycle dudes who pop wheelies along the Blvd and hang out at the Loaf n Jug. Two have died within as many years along that stretch due to excessive speed. I saw them driving like knuckheads just two weeks ago despite one of their friends crashing into a minivan at about 124 MPH. Anybody who knows the area would agree with me.

I will be a bi-vocational pastor meaning, I will be working a secular job to support my family as we start the church. I don't think it will be hard to find work. My wife & I have been working in healthcare for over 5 years now. I have a heart for people & want to help the community as much as I can. I want to help in practical ways as well as spiritual. One of the ministries we will have in our church is A.R.K. (Acts of Relevaet Kindness). You are welcome to look at our web site under ministries and you will see what the A.R.K. ministry is about. I would love to be able to connect with your brother.

That's funny. I guess that's the good thing about not having a fence yet. The little critters look kinda like big spiders crawling across the road.

I've seen tumbleweeds stacked to the top of 30 ft and 40 ft high quonsets in eastern Colorado, like near Cheyenne Wells and Arapahoe. With a good wind, hopefully they blow away to Oklahoma and Texas.

I do remember the mini whirl winds that produced the tumble weeds blowing about. We lived in an area now called Goodnight. We lived outside the city limits near the golf course. We had no paved roads. I don't know much about Pueblo West because it was created after we left. Pueblo was an interesting town with interesting ideas and politics. I went through there once years later, when I was grown up and driving. The cars went through stop streets so I had to watch out. I am glad I had the experience of Pueblo. We left due to personal memories that were unpleasant that had nothing to do with Pueblo. We were homesick when we left, but knew we would never return. I know some of the others said the same things that I remember, but I have lived in other places that were alot worse than Pueblo was.

Talking I absolutely LOVE Pueblo!!!!!!!

I just returned home from my two week pre-move trip to Pueblo yesterday and miss it already. This town is great! I must admit after reading some posts on here I thought I would be disappointed in Pueblo. I just don't get why anyone who has ever been to this area would say anything other than what a truly great town this is. My fiance rented an apartment close to Northern and Pueblo Blvd. The apartments are older but nice and clean and for 550.00 per month with a month to month rental agreement they will work out just fine for our purposes. There are stores and eateries very close so one doesn't need to go too far. But... nothing in this town is too far. It's big enough to have most chain restaurants and most chain department stores. If you can't find it in Pueblo, you can travel 45 miles to Colorado Springs. That's nothing when you're from KC like me. The city like I said is very easy to get around in and nothing is too far. It takes just a matter of minutes to get from the southern corner of the city where our apartment is to the mall and northern most parts of the city. You gotta love that!

I found Pueblo rich in history, charm but most of all PRIDE. Wow, I can't say enough for the city managers and their efforts to revitalize and preserve this town. The river walk is beautiful. The downtown restoration is ongoing and rich in history which I love. The courthouse's gold dome is breathtaking.

Unlike some posts, I never once felt afraid or uncomfortable. Everyone and I mean everyone I met was just as nice as could be. I am smitten with this area of the world. I not only love the city, but the Front Range in CO couldn't be more appealing. There is so much to see and do. One day we drove 45 minutes to the Garden of the Gods (Beautiful) and another hour to the summit of Pikes Peak. A gotta go see for everyone. Memorial Day we went to the Royal Gorge (just an hour or so from town) and spent the day. Another on my list of must sees. But I think the most surprising place that I happened on was Beulah. Beautiful Beulah. I was waiting for a prescription to be filled one day and had been dying to just take a left on Northern and see what was out by the mountain foothills. 20 miles later and 15 minutes of my wait turned into the most lovliest little drive you could imagine. I ended up at the beautiful little town of Beulah Co. It's been there forever in the foothills of the Wet Mountains. This is one of my many little town finds, just a few minutes away from Pueblo that just fascinate me. The next day I couldn't stop talking about Beulah so my fiance and I stopped at Popeye's Chicken for a picnic and drove out there again and found The Pueblo Mountain Park. I could have cried. Within 30 minutes from my front door, I was in the mountain wilds. This area is to die for. No if, ands or buts. I guess we could just close this thread now. LOLOLOL... J/K McgowDog, you are the "Proud Ambassador of Pueblo" and Pueblo must be proud to have you.

I look forward to my permanent move to this city for however long my stay will be. I am seriously thinking that this could be the place to retire in 10 years or so. Just don't tell everyone or it might turn into another Phoenix.

What a city and what an area. Colorado has a gem here.
Stacy

I've posted on Pueblo threads before but seemed to forgot about Beulah. Other small towns in the Pueblo area I like is Rye and Colorado City to the south, and Silvercliff and Westcliffe to the west. If you are into fishing Pueblo Reservoir is one of the best in the state. 165 has some good camping spots like Smith Creek, Ophir Creek, and Lake San Isabel. If you want to go a little further, take 50 past Canon City. The Arkansas river has the best trout fishing in the state, IMHO. The Sangre De Cristo (Spanish for Blood of Christ) Mountain Range is as good as it gets, scenery wise. Also near that range is DeWeese Reservoir. Lake Of the Clouds and Kite Lake are in the Sangres. All of those lakes and reservoirs are an easy one hour drive out of Pueblo.

Here's a few pictures of Pueblo I took recently last time I passed through:

Not Pueblo, but the Fountain Creek north of Pueblo:
