If I were to purchase a house in an area outside a small city (say outside Pueblo or Canon City), would I be on well water or municipal water? Would I need to live within city limits to get muni water?

TY

That's a real tough question to answer globally. Every city/town is different, depending on where they get their water from. Some have municipal systems that only serve those within their town limits, and others have agreements to provide water outside the town limits for additional fees. Some rural areas form water districts and that district could get water either from the town or from their own well.

We have a house in a subdivision just outside the town limits of Buena Vista and we are on town sewer but we have our own community water well.

Water districts can range from 5 to 500,000 houses. Fortunately, there is much consolidation going on. My subdivision had 260 homes on a 4-well system, which was purchased by a district that now has 3,000 customers on about 40 wells. One block up the street the $1 Million+ houses each have their own well, and all of us are within city limits. So, it all depends.

All real estate listings show the source of water.
