I know about Micheal's and I know about Hobby Lobby. They're both okay for basic provisions, like paper and tape, but they're really just arts&crafts stores. I'm looking for a specialized ARTIST's store (at the risk of sounding like an art snob) -- a place that will have a fine selection of brushes, papers, raw canvas and other specialized equipment for draw-ers, painters and the like. I live in Palmer Lake, so I'm pretty close to midway between COS and southern Denver. Closer is better, of course, but I'm willing to drive for the right sort of offering.

I found this place: Meininger Art Supply -- is that any good, or just another holiday decorator/scrapbooker bonanza?

Than you in advance for response(s).

Meininger Art Supply or Guiry's are the two that my wife shopped at for her projects when she was in the Denver area. Meininger was just off Speer Blvd around 12th, I think.

I also recall Guiry's having a location around the Laramer and Speer Blvd area ... a few blocks North from there on Laramer. They seemed pretty well stocked for a "serious" artist to me. They've got 7 stores in the Front Range, so you might want to google them and see if there's a location more convenient for you.

Okay, I guess there aren't nearly as many artists around here as there are life coaches. Thanks for the sole response, sunsprit...

Well it was a good response so maybe no one needed to add to it. The southern burbs are not hotbeds of radical. There was a Guiry's or another art supply store in University Hills but it might have closed, check the internet phone book.

Maybe post this separately in the two city sections?

I was down in the southern suburbs last weekend and I believe there's a Guiry's at either like S Univ and County Line Rd or So CO Blvd and County Line Rd--can't remember which exactly.

I don't know about Guiry's, but a friend tells me that it's a pretty good art supply store. Meininger's, nearer where i live, is where all the art-types i know go to get their supplies, though.

I love Meininger's! The majority of the students from the Colorado Institute of Art get supplies here that are too expensive at the school.

Yeah, I finally got down to Meininger's in COS last week and it was very good for most things. What I can't get there I can get at the Denver store or online. As a bonus there's a good mexican food restaurant and a drive up non-starbucks coffee place with great coffee.
