hey guys,
I currently live in New York and am looking into moving to Colorado. I'm kinda changing my life around, picking things up and reinventing myself. I'm planning on attending the Colorado Mountain College and my classes would mainly be located at the Roaring Fork Campus (primarily the Glenwood Springs area).
I have 2 cats and a chinchilla that i'd be taking with me so I need to rent a place rather than live on-campus.
Any advice as to what area I should move to? I need something that wouldn't be too far from campus and has some job opportunities (I'm supporting myself).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I'm trying to get there as soon as i can.
Thanks.

Good luck. I live in Basalt, Colorado, between Glenwood Springs and Aspen in the Roaring Fork Valley. I moved here from NYC, and it's very, very different. I've missed NYC every day since I left, and am moving back to a city this month.

You should live in Glenwood Springs, but keep in mind that you'll need a car. The Roaring Fork Campus of CMC is very out of the way and isolated, and not accessible by bus as far as I know. It's up a winding road, up a hill, and a couple miles from the main road. If you can't afford a car, I hate to say it, but you may need to give up your pets and live on-campus. Glenwood Springs is where you'll find employment.

Unless something in the past year has changed CMC is a "commuter" institution in that it focuses more on continuing education and career development. It's not a 4 year school.

Glenwood Springs is a cool town with a nice setting. Most job opportunities will probably be in the service sector or tourism.

Rents are very high and places are hard to find, especially for pets. The oil and gas boom drove prices crazy, but it should be better now.

You will have to pay out of state tuition at CMC until you have lived in CO a year.

Every place is different than NYC. There's nothing quite like it. but it sounds like the orignial poster is looking for a complete change of pace.
