Can anyone tell us what this march was for? At the rear was an ambulance and a police car, off on the side of the road where the group of men, women and children marched, and at the front of the march, were about 4-5 men supporting a very large, tall crucifix. There was a police car at the beginning of this march too. Was it a religious ceremony? A political gathering? A celebration of sorts?
We passed this on the highway and were very curious about what it was significant of.

Well I know FUBAR is going on this weekend down there in the Valley...so it might have been in protest for that. You are also going to repost this in the CO thread, not the Springs thread. Some on there might go "where is Monte Vista?".

These marches, celebrating various religious holidays, are common in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. Some of it is a toned-down "mainstream" version of the Penitente ceremonies that were commonly practiced in the region in past years--and still are in some more remote areas.
