(DENVER) – First time home buyers looking to take advantage of today’s competitive home prices and the $8,000 federal tax credit may have another reason to buy a home. CHFA (Colorado Housing and Finance Authority) has launched a statewide Mortgage Credit Certificate program, which gives qualifying first time home buyers even greater tax benefits from home ownership than traditionally available.

To apply for a CHFA Mortgage Credit Certificate, contact one of CHFA’s participating lenders, or inquire about Mortgage Credit Certificates with your local lending institution. To view a complete list of lenders currently authorized to issue CHFA Mortgage Credit Certificates visit CHFA - Financing the places where people live and work.

The $8,000 tax credit is for any first time (or not in the last 3 years) home buyers, closing before 12/1/2009. CHFA is only for properties in Colorado.

What exactly does CHFA provide? Does it benefit people buying from out of state (but as primary residence)?

CHFA is Colorado Housing Finance Authority. Available to all home buyers in Colorado. Must use a participating lender.
