Removing snow from roof of cars/trucks? (neighborhood, live)

Is there a law in CO requiring snow removal snow from the roof of your car/truck?

I'm surprised how many don't don't it. Perhaps these are the same thoughtless people who don't use turn signals and drive below the speed limit in the left lane...

AFAIK, there isn't a law, but there should be. I always see people driving around with a sh** ton of snow on the roof of their car (and, oftentimes, with snow covering headlights, tail lights, turn signals, etc.).

During our last snow storm (a couple weeks ago), I saw some guy stopped in the middle of a road for, apparently, no reason. As I passed him, I realized what had happened ... he hit his brakes for something and all the snow on his roof slid right onto his windshield. Of course, it was way too much for his wipers, so he had to stop and clear it all off. He was lucky it wasn't a busy road.

People who drive around with all that snow on top of their cars are either clueless/ignorant or they think it's cute or something. Either way, it's dumb. In the least, all that snow blows off onto people behind them while they're driving, which is discourteous.

BTW, I'm with you on the other two things, too (people not using turn signals and people driving slow in the left lane). Drives me crazy.

I learned pretty quickly to avoid those cube trucks with the snow and chunks of ice flying off the roof. At least they have an excuse for not clearing it.

I do believe back when I was engaging with the colorado state patrol on a regular basis, they could ticket you for not clearing the snow off.

I don't believe there's a specific statute, but I'm fairly certain that you can be ticketed for a safety infraction.

I admit I never do it........I just let it blow off..............But if it were like 1/2 ft or more I'd clear it off

I am not aware of a law but if the view is obstructed for any reason they can give you a ticket, and if you cause an accident there is an all purpose traffic citation they can and will often use.

If a more than a dusting of snow has accumulated on your car, it is important to remove it, because a sheet of snow flying off the roof is a real danger to any vehicle following you. The snow doesn't necessarily blow away before by the time you exit your neighborhood, and at high speeds on the highway, it can create a hazard for other drivers. Please be considerate and brush ALL the snow off your car.

This is why I asked.

I recall a number of years ago, when I lived in PA, a number of serious accidents from sheets of ice and snow flying off trucks and smashing windshields behind them, on the PA Tpk. That prompted enactment of a law requiring all snow be removed from the roof of your vehicle.

One would think there would be similar problems here.

I heard that last year as well and IRC someone was killed by a huge piece of ice that flew off a truck here in PA. I do believe it is now law.
