Hello all,

I moved to Denver just over a year ago but haven't been able to find a full time job. I've gotten by doing some freelance work. It is SO frustrating! Anyway, I might have the opportunity to take a position in the Winter Park area which would be full time. I'm 30 years old and single, and was wondering if anyone has experience living there? Obviously I'm not expecting to find the accommodations of Denver city life, or the potential dating pool, but what's it like there? (I'm going for a visit soon to explore in person).

Thanks!

Scenery is awesome. Basically the area consists of what lies along US-40 and is heavily dependent on tourism and skiing. There is an Amtrak station at the Winter Park Hotel. Expect snowy winters and any two hour drive to Denver includes a trip over Berthoud Pass, below. If I were young, single and needing a full time job, I'd be there as fast as I could get there.

Click here for pix of the area.

Berthoud Pass, Sept 2006. Cold and Snowy. Warm and Sunny in Denver an hour later.

I'd say go for it.

There are some things you'll have to adjust to. Colder weather. Higher real estate costs with smaller accommodations. Seasonal life, with busy in the summer and winter and quiet in spring and fall.

It's different than bog standard city living and it sounds like you don't have much tying you down so go for the adventure.

Agreed. Beautiful, heavily forested area.

You'll be very bored if you like the city-life.
