...for a late twenties couple in Columbia? We'd prefer something not to suburbia and one of us will be commuting to sumter 3x a week. Other than that were pretty open...

I'll second that. Maybe Forest Acres, Canal Place, or Earlewood also.

Olympia is pretty inexpensive for the most part. It isn't terrible, but it isn't the nicest neighborhood either. The Granby and Olympia Loft Apartments are awesome, though.

yeah i own a house there and the houses around me owned on my side of the street and rented out on the other but pretty safe over all..... although it gets shady or red neckish the closer u are to the end of the streets but it is mostly a rented area and about 25% live in home owners in the area the houses tend to be 1400 square feet on average and mostly 2-3 bedroom houses and any 4 bedrooms are for rent only.

That was my impression. I need to stay on the East side of Columbia as my Girlfriend will be commuting to sumter 3x a week. Seems like the SE area is our best bet. looking to keep things under 900 a month. I must say, coming from New England (or should i not admit that pubicly), I am pleasantly surprised with the amount of space one gets in columbia. Would love to live in a house as were used to 700-900SF apartments.

There are plenty of people that live in Columbia who are natives of New England.

I think we've settled on Rosewood/Shandon area. Are there any areas within that area we should avoid? Are there any better resources than Craigslist for rentals?
